I've been working on catalyzing interest in the Transition Movement for the last several years, as founder of Sustainable Michigan/Peak Oil... we hosted community presentations on "Transition Towns" and a Transition Handbook ongoing work group which we offered to the community ongoingly to spark the interest in bringing Transition to Michigan.
Kris Kaul and I, as SMPO, began a search for a Transition Trainer and after contacting several about trainings and developing these contacts, we began working with Michael Brownlee and got a Transition Training core group going that led to the first Transition Training in Michiganl.

While I was the person who initially contacted Michael Brownlee(TUSA) to explore setting up a local transition training and invited others to attend initial meetings with him to begin planning a Transition Training in Michigan. (This led to Transition Michigan developing). As we began to discuss doing the training after the initial meeting it seemed very important to me, as it had all along, that we be committed to a process was inclusive and that reached out to a broad base of community members as well as planning the training in a way that we would be able to offer scholarships.
The rest of the group felt it was important to proceed quickly and not be limited by a concern with those issues, and so I left the planning group and instead worked on things like my own projects and setting up websites for Transition Ann Arbor and Transition Ypsilanti that would not be exclusive private groups but open, networking sites where anyone who wanted to could have a voice and participate. This to me is more important in transition, as how can we get to a new place if we use the old processes that got us where we are today? What could be more important than inclusion?
What organizations or initiatives have you worked for, past and present? How has your background led you to the Transition Movement?
Recently started organizing with Kris Kaul to bring Transition to Michigan leading to the area Transition Michigan training, and have worked since as website developer for transition. In the past I was part of many grass roots efforts and organizations in the Ann Arbor area - initiated the A2 Women's peace camp 1983, Ann Arbor Peace Community Walled Lake action protesting the Cruise missile, LASC, Michigan Interfaith Committee on Central American Human Rights (MICAH), a faith-based solidarity organization, educated and organized the public on issues in Central America; active with nuclear freeze, war tax resisters, organizing in Monroe County to promote citizen ed on Enrico Fermi Nuclear power plant, etc.
What experience, skills, or interests would you like to utilize as you become involved in your local Transitions community?
I've been an organic gardener of 20 years and professionally am a psychotherapist in Ann Arbor, also for 20+yrs. I've studied, had training in, and worked with ecopsychology and also have been involved over the years in many peace and justice organizations and events. I'm very interested in working with others on reskilling and would like to see this movement be more inclusive.
